Fear of Spiders, Insects & Animals

Many people are wary or scared of spiders and sometimes other insects or animals too. If you discovered a large tarantula in your house, your natural self protective instinct would be activated and it would tell you that you need to be cautious, especially if you don’t know what sort of spider it is and whether it could be harmful or not.

However, what if that large spider wasn’t a tarantula? What if you were at home watching TV and a small, ordinary and harmless house spider walked across the floor? Looking at the situation objectively and logically, you realise that the spider is probably far more scared of a human being who is thousands of times bigger than itself. But your subconscious mind interprets the situation in the same way as it would if a whole army of large hairy tarantulas was trekking across the floor.

Which therapy?

Fear of spiders, insects and other animals often begins either as a result of a negative past experience or it can develop from anxiety about the unknown. However the fear developed, it is a response that has been learned, so the good news is that it can be unlearned.

Many people find hypnotherapy very helpful for fear of spiders, insects and animals because in hypnotherapy, a variety of techniques can be used to work with the subconscious mind, to uncover the source of the fear and develop a new, calmer way of responding and leave the fear in the past.
